Demonstrating our commitment to CSR and young people developing transferable skills
Freestyle IT is supporting a local sixth form student, Ellie, to take part in a conservation expedition to Borneo.
Ellie decided to take part in this project, over 2 weeks in June 2020, as she is studying Biology and Geography and is keen to learn more about how species live and face challenges to their survival.
Her School is taking a group on the expedition, which is being led by Operation Wallacea, an environmental research and conservation organisation, who design and implement biodiversity surveys in remote locations across the world.
The first week involves living in the Lesan Conservation Forest Camp and participating in a Borneo wildlife course, as well as conducting surveys of birds, forest structure, primates and mammals.
During the second week students learn about marine ecology at Derawan Dive Resort and have the option of completing their PADI Open Water.
These expeditions are independently funded, and Freestyle IT are proud to be sponsoring Ellie.
